Bei einem Verkehrsunfall in Mittegroßefehn ist am Samstagvormittag auf der Bundesstraße 72 eine Frau ums Leben gekommen, zwei weitere Personen wurden zum Teil schwer verletzt.
In Höhe der Zufahrt Holtmeedeweg kam es zu der Kollision eines Audis mit einem BMW. Durch die Wucht des Aufpralles wurde hierbei der BMW in den neben der Fahrbahn verlaufenden Graben geschleudert und die Beifahrerin eingeklemmt. Sie erlag noch an der Unfallstelle ihren Verletzungen. Der Fahrer wurde bei dem Unfall schwerverletzt, war jedoch nicht eingeklemmt. Die Insassin des Audis konnten sich ohne fremde Hilfe verletzt aus ihrem Fahrzeug befreien.
Die alarmierten Kräfte der Feuerwehr unterstützten den Rettungsdienst bei den Rettungsmaßnahmen. Hierbei setzten sie unter anderem hydraulisches Gerät ein. Die Aufräumarbeiten setzten sich bis in die Mittagsstunden fort. Beide Unfallfahrzeuge verloren Betriebsstoffe.
Für die Dauer des zweistündigen Einsatzes wurde die Bundesstraße voll gesperrt. Die Feuerwehren aus Akelsbarg-Felde-Wrisse, Aurich-Oldendorf, West-/Mittegroßefehn & Ulbargen, Spetzerfehn und Sandhorst waren mit sieben Fahrzeugen und etwa fünfzig Einsatzkräften vor Ort. Im Einsatz waren daneben der Rettungsdienst des Landkreises Aurich, der Rettungshubschrauber Christoph 6, zwei Streifenwagen der Polizei und ein Fachunternehmen zur Beseitigung der Unfallschäden.
